Motivation

In 2018, a fire broke out in my apartment (Beaumonde Towers). Motivated to solve this problem, I began researching it and discovered that gas-leaks are a leading cause of fires in my city. I also found that delayed detection or notification of gas-leaks could lead to the loss of life.

Technical Details

SENSAFE contains the ESP-8266 WiFi chip, which enables its IoT connectivity, an MQ2 flammable gas detector, a buzzer, and an RGB LED. I designed a printed circuit board (PCB) and a sleek 3D printed casing for SENSAFE.

SENSAFE makes use of the Twilio API to route phone calls, SMS messages and emails to the user’s mobile phone as soon as a fire is detected. I made use of Arduino (C++) and JavaScript to program SENSAFE, store data and send web-requests.
